Description of Services

StoryKasa Services allow you to listen to audio stories or create audio stories on any device. The Discover feature helps you to browse the StoryKasa public library, listen to stories and save your favorites to your private library. The Create a Story feature lets you create, save, and share your own stories in your private library. When you record a new story you can add a title, description, age range, and upload illustrations. Your stories will be visible to other profiles in your account. You can also choose to share your stories with other friends and family using a link to a shared library. If you would like to share a story with the public you can submit your story for review and we may accept it based on certain assurances (e.g., is original or adapted and not under copyright) and criteria (e.g., has good sound quality). If you do this and we approve your story it will be converted to public and viewable by others. If you change your mind and would like to convert your story back to private, please email us at help@storykasa.com and we can help you with this.

Free Tier

StoryKasa provides a free tier of Services that is accessible to all and is designed to reach as many children, families, and schools as possible without cost-based barriers. We hope that stories and words can help language development and literacy, fuel imagination, and build empathy and social connectedness.

Paid Tier

We also have a premium paid tier of Services for families and schools who would like additional features and services such as support for larger numbers of users, personalized AI tools, and recording capabilities that exceed the one-hour limit in the free tier. Payments in the premium tier can be made on a monthly or annual basis, are non-refundable, and will be charged to your payment method on the billing date indicated. The length of your billing cycle will depend on the type of subscription that you choose when you sign-up for the service. If a payment is not successfully settled, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not cancel your account, we may suspend your access to Services until we have successfully charged a valid payment method. You can cancel your premium membership at any time, and you will continue to have access to StoryKasa Services through the end of your billing period. We may change our subscription plans and the price of our Services from time to time; however, any price changes or changes to your subscription plans will apply at least 30 days after we notify you.

Creating an Account

Accounts may only be established by individuals 13 and older and by creating an account you affirm that you are at least 13 years old. Children below the age of 13 must have the account holder’s permission to listen to stories or create new stories using StoryKasa’s Services. An account holder can add two other people for a total of 3 profiles per account. Your email address must be kept up-to-date, and we may send important messages from time to time to your email address. You are solely responsible for the activity that occurs on your account, so it’s important that you keep your account secure and use a strong password. Copyright and Creative Commons

Creative Commons (CC) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to building capacity, developing practical solutions, and advocating for open sharing of knowledge and culture that serves the public interest and addresses the world’s most pressing challenges. By openly releasing all content in our public library under a Creative Commons license we are able to scale impact and make this content available to individuals and organizations worldwide. Much of our content is already in the public domain or openly licensed from others like StoryWeaver and Africa Storybook under a CC BY 4.0 license which lets you distribute, remix, and build upon the story as long as you provide attribution and credit the author and narrator.

This also means that if you choose to share stories with the StoryKasa public library you are agreeing to making them available to anyone via a CC BY 4.0 license. Of course, you can always keep all your stories in your private library, and they will only be viewable by others in your account or specific people you choose to share with outside your account. You are responsible for following the law, especially the law as it relates to copyright infringement, while using StoryKasa Services. We do not have an obligation to monitor user conduct on our Services and you are solely responsible for your conduct, the content you submit, and your interactions with others.

You are fully responsible for the content you share with us. If you share the content publicly, you do so at your own risk and StoryKasa will not be responsible for any legal actions with regards to such content. You hereby represent and warrant that (1) you own the content or have the rights to share the content with us and to allow us to use it, and (2) the content will not infringe, misappropriate, or otherwise violate the intellectual property rights or other rights of a third party.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Our commitment is to you, and we understand the value of your privacy. We want you to feel comfortable sharing your stories through StoryKasa and we want to explain the steps we take to ensure your stories stay safe and private. This means no ads, no data sharing, and no third-party access to your data. We do not allow advertisers to create profiles for the purpose of targeting users for advertising and marketing. User Control

All user created stories are private by default and remain in your personal library. They are only viewable by people in your account or others you may invite to listen to them. However, you can submit a story to share with the larger StoryKasa community. We will not share your story with the public via the website or social networks unless you explicitly request us to do this.

Saving and Securing Stories

These are your stories, and we want to make sure that no matter what happens, you will always have access to them. All stories are stored in our database and all communication between your browser and StoryKasa uses the secure https:// protocol (indicated by the little padlock next to the internet address) for additional security.

Acceptable Use

You may use our Services only as permitted by law and you may not misuse our Services in any way. For example, you may not

• access or use our Services to abuse, defame, slander, harass or threaten anyone.
• share any materials with us or through the Services that are obscene, inappropriate or objectionable, such as pornographic materials or materials that are racist, malicious or violent.
• use the Services to transmit any viruses or similar destructive items
• interfere with our Services or a user’s ability to access them, such as by hacking them or accessing another user’s accoun

We may suspend or stop providing our Services to you at any time, including if you do not comply with these Terms or any other policies or if we are investigating suspected misconduct.

Violation of Terms of Use

You will lose the right to use StoryKasa Services if you violate these Terms, including violating intellectual property, unfair competition, copyright, or any other laws. We also reserve the right to terminate your access to all or part of any of the services, for any reason, with or without notice.

Disclaimer and Release

StoryKasa cannot control and has no responsibility for the truth or accuracy of any material provided by its users. Even though users are prohibited from doing so, people may provide information, or otherwise behave, in a way that is unreliable, misleading, or even illegal. To the extent that the law permits, you release StoryKasa, its directors, contractors and employees from all liability (including in relation to disputes with other users) arising out of your use of StoryKasa Services.

Indemnification and Limitation of Liability

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless StoryKasa from all damages, losses, expenses (including reasonable legal fees), claims, suits or actions related to your breach of these Terms or violation of applicable laws. The laws of California, USA, will apply to any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services.

Changes To These Terms

StoryKasa reserves the right to revise these Terms at any time by posting an updated version to our website. You should visit this page periodically to review the most current terms, because they are binding on you.
